Meet our North Lakes Pharmacy Technician, Trudi Spencer

From the moment Trudi Spencer first stepped into a pharmacy more than 35 years ago, she knew she was exactly where she belonged – drawn to the impact she could make and the rewarding career opportunities ahead.

Today, Trudi stands as an example of the passion and dedication that has defined 60 years of Slade Pharmacy.

A fulfilling career journey

Trudi’s pharmacy journey began in country Victoria in 1989, where she discovered the role of a pharmacy technician – a role she hadn’t even heard of at the time.

“I was intrigued, so I jumped in, completed my qualifications, and that’s where my career in dispensing started,” she recalled.

In 2000, Trudi moved to Queensland and began a remarkable 25-year chapter with Slade, starting at APHS St Andrew’s, now Slade Pharmacy St Andrew’s, as the non-pharmacist Dispensary Manager.

“I loved my time there – the people, the work, even the challenges. It was a great introduction to an organisation I would spend a big chunk of my career with.”

Over the years, Trudi has taken on roles from solo technician to dispensary manager, aged care services and customer service – each deepening her expertise. Today, she’s the solo technician at Slade Pharmacy North Lakes, based within Icon Cancer Centre.

“I love my current role – it’s a great team, and I’ve been able to shape the role to deliver the best care I can.”

A career of real impactA career of real impact

Trudi hasn’t just worked in our pharmacies, she’s helped build them. From contributing to contract wins, opening new sites, piloting roles, to even shaping uniform designs, Trudi’s imprint is everywhere.

“It’s so exciting being there from the beginning – sometimes literally, when there’s no roof or walls yet,” she laughed.

People at the heart

As the pharmacy field and our network has evolved including the introduction of new technologies, systems, and the harmonisation of the Slade Pharmacy brand, Trudi says one thing has always stayed the same: the people.

“Without a doubt, the biggest highlight of my career is the people I’ve met. I’ve made lifelong friendships and been part of so many amazing teams.”

Advice for the next generationAdvice for the next generation

With more than three decades of pharmacy experience, Trudi’s advice is simple:

“Say yes to opportunities. Trust your instincts. Never stop learning. And most importantly – have fun. There will be tough days, but enjoy the journey and take time for yourself.”

As we celebrate 60 years of Slade, we’re proud to recognise dedicated team members like Trudi, who help shape our network every day.
