One year after earning group-wide accreditation to deliver the Advanced Pharmacy Australia (AdPha) Resident Training Program, Slade Pharmacy is marking another milestone with five early-career pharmacists embedded across key hospital sites.

This achievement reflects our ongoing commitment to advancing patient care while supporting the professional development of early-career pharmacists.

By meeting the rigorous standards of the AdPha accreditation process, Slade has reinforced its role in preparing the next generation of pharmacists to deliver safe, effective, and patient-centred care.

One year on, five pharmacists have joined the program across three locations: Wesley, St Andrew’s, and Northern Beaches.

Quality Pharmacist – Learning and Development, Kristen Thessman, said the milestone showcases Slade’s focus on professional growth.

“Our residency program through AdPha gives early-career pharmacists a nationally accredited pathway to develop clinical capability and confidence,” Kristen said.

“With rotations across multiple Slade sites, including our specialised cancer care pharmacies, residents gain diverse clinical experience while we foster a workforce culture built on lifelong learning, collaboration, and high-quality patient care.”

Early-career pharmacist Casey Ball, who recently completed the program, described it as a valuable step in her professional journey.

“The clinical expertise of my preceptors was invaluable in expanding my knowledge beyond the scope of the training plans,” Casey said.

Through the program, Casey gained the opportunity to work in critical care alongside other rotations, broadening her experience and strengthening her multidisciplinary skills.

“The opportunity to have two years of critical care training at the practice level of a resident pharmacist has provided so much more exposure to complex clinical cases – every day is interesting!”

Beyond the initial rollout in Queensland, Slade Pharmacy plans to replicate this model across other states and extend the resident program at its regional sites. This expansion will not only increase the number of pharmacists who can benefit from the program but also foster a culture of continuous learning and clinical excellence.
